Racial PArofiling and Law Enforcement
Racial profiling has been an issue of discussion in the world today. Most countries, including the USA, has engaged in racial profiling whereby enforcers of law move around towns stopping people and asking them question . For instance, where they live, what they do, their identity cards, and so on. Racial profiling has been very discriminating as well as a direct act of racism that portrays lack of freedom and right of movement. Racial profiling has made law enforcers forget their duties in targeting criminal activities and instead ,disrupting peace through abrupt interrogation. Various ideologies behind racial profiling are discussed together with negative impacts to victims.
Racial discrimination is against the law of right to freedom brought about by illegal searches, especially when no clear evidence is collected. A police search is only authorized when the law enforcers have a search warrant or a stop which occurs at the crime scene when there is clear evidence of the crime committed. Racial profiling is experienced by blacks and the Latinos living in European countries. Law enforcers play the most significant part in racial discrimination as compared to the white residents in those states. Death due to random shooting and arrest of innocent blacks have been an order of the day in these countries.
Racism is practiced due to the difference in economic status. Blacks Latinos migrate from their own countries in search of green pastures probably work. Police view them as peace disruptors, therefore, accusing them more often and even arresting them. The social-economic status of people should not define their character or instead defined by race. Police officers confidently stop blacks in a white country and won’t dare finish a white person race is not an entitlement to criminality or bad character. Racial profiling is generally brought about by having a lousy attitude and perception of a particular group of people.
Migration has brought about more black communities and Latino communities such as Arabs and Muslims to live in European countries. Police enforcers have therefore biased due to an increase in terrorist activities. (Nguyen, and, Gill,2016 ).Terrorism has been widely experienced in many countries, mainly due to the increased rate of immigrates. This attitude has led to fear and prediction in case of attacks. Police enforcers have tried to promote peace and maintain safety by use of racial profiling because most of the terrorists are believed to be from the Latin countries.
The beliefs of people towards a certain race have led to mistrust upon that particular group. Even with a good profile, a specific breed will still look suspicious. Blacks are prone to racial biases; therefore, when police are spotted expectations for them being stopped and frisked are high. Fear makes them more suspicious and nervous, mostly when finding in an uncertain environment. Racial profiling is enhanced by the level of education, type of work done, as well as the economic status of that particular person. According to a study, Black police officers get inadequate treatments as compared to the white policemen.
Racial disparities and biases have affected court justice in dealing with various cases concerning two people or group from different race and ethnicity. Facts on drugs have directed to the blacks whereby whites are spared when it comes to drug-related incidents. Traffic police harass the blacks or Latinos as compared to the whites whereby when taken to court due to racial biases, they end up being arrested and charged with an offense they never committed. ( Pérez Huber, and Solorzano, 2015).Crimes related to blacks are never deeply investigated into instead immediate measures are taken out of racial discrimination. Getting a professional lawyer becomes a hard task since most of them never want to be in defense of the blacks unless the lawyer is from the same race. When the lawyer is not from the same track, they tend to be very expensive or intentionally lose the case.
Imprisonment of people, as well as a mass shooting, has increased due to racial differences affecting social justice. Time spent on non-existing cases is more as compared to time spent on the growth and development of both the individual ad the country. When a white police officer approaches a black person, the fear and anxiety between the two of them are aroused. Racial anxiety is triggered when two groups of people from different race interact over an issue.( Teasley,et,al.,2017) Aggression and violence occur due to the anxiety, therefore, leading to arrest. A different case erupts in the process of arguing, therefore, ending up been accused of a different thing, for instance, insulting a police officer.
Racial profiling lays an impact on people lives, excluding them from safety, freedom, and enjoyment of their rights — racism as well as affect people attitudes towards the police department and the majority group as well. The attitude affects how blacks or the discriminated group views the police and therefore ends up being enemy with the police either on the right side or the wrong side of the law.
Mistrust makes the discriminated group not to cooperate when it comes to police activities. Racial profiling is not the right procedure in crime investigation; instead, this brings out criminality through fights, deaths as well as violent behaviors between the victim and the police. Migration has impacted pressure on the police department when it comes to strategizing on criminal investigation and safety.
Racial profiling is viewed as an inappropriate way of investigation. Concentration on one type of race during terrorism investigation promotes hidden identities and more recruitments of terrorists from other sports. Terrorists who cannot be identified easily get involved more as compared to the branded race. (Nadal, et al., 2017). This process, therefore, bears fewer fruits in capturing terrorists. Police have concentrated less on new ideas, policing and criminality instead of directing more emphasis and energy in racial profiling. Crime theories and policies are useful when it comes to arrests.Areas prone to crime, rational choices made, together with biosocial factors.
Consequently, various states need to impose policies in police departments on matters of racial profiling. Having negative attitudes towards a certain race, beliefs, and expectations towards a particular group of people are the root cause of racism. Racial profiling enhances criminality through aggression and false accusations. Profiled groups are the minority who suffer in the hands of the majority due to lack of freedom and right of expression. whites, blacks, and Latino, should join hands and fight racial profiling instead of letting making matter affect the victims. Policies and strategies in criminality are imposed and applied to overcome the big problem of racial profiling.
