There are challenges or issues that surround diversity. The keyword when it comes to this topic is discrimination. There are various types of discrimination that the legal system tries to combat, and one of them is racial discrimination. Racial discrimination involves mistreating people or employees based on race or physical characteristics like skin color, hair texture, hair color, and various facial or body features (Sollors, 2018). The 13th Amendment abolished discrimination and slave trade based on color or race more than 150 years ago. The Civil Rights Act of 1964 protects individuals from all types of discrimination. The black people in America still feel the impact up to date.
According to research conducted by the American Trends Panel involving 6637 adults in 2019, 65% of the people said that race and ethnicity discrimination has become more common during the leadership of President Trump (Horowitz et al., 2019). Another 45% said that it has become more acceptable than before. The black people, Hispanics, and Asians. The unemployment rates for the ethnic minorities were at 12.9% compared to the white people at 6.3%. This type of discrimination has affected the victims when encountering the police, applying for jobs, promotions at work, buying or renting homes, health clinics, and general reactions from people.
It has led to a racial gap in America which has led to some people from the minority communities suffering from depression and being accused wrongfully by the law enforcers. Some also have social anxiety and psychological issues caused by health-harming stress. Color or race discrimination persists despite many legal and social adjustments aimed at improving the opportunities for the minority communities. This type of discrimination is a question of when it will end and how the effects will impact the new generations. Everyone needs to end race or color discrimination in the workplace, healthcare sector, schools, social gatherings, or politics. More so, any form of discrimination does not show service to humanity.
