Nursing as a science is constantly evolving
As a science, nursing is always getting better and finding new ways to help people and raise the standard of care. Research is the tool that will help make this change. There are many different ways to do research, and each one has great value for healthcare research. At the same time, they have many similarities and differences. The method used depends on why the investigation is being done and what needs to be fixed. Researchers can get new information and data from both quantitative and qualitative methods. This makes it easier to analyze and interpret the data and turn it into new content. The method chosen by the researcher will depend on why the research is being done and what questions or problems the researcher is trying to solve.
The quantitative method is used to test a hypothesis that the researcher has made up. The result could be H0, which means that there is no link between the factors and variables, or H1, which means that there is a link between them. This method is more systematic and based on what investigators see and infer from the collected data. It measures the information to find a cause-and-effect link. There are four types of quantitative research: descriptive, correlational, quasi-experimental, and experimental. Each one builds on the others and is used depending on the controls, variables, and sample size. The success of this method depends on how disciplined and consistent the researcher is. Inadequate samples and designs, biases, and extraneous variables, among other things, are the most common mistakes.
The qualitative method is more subjective and looks at real-life experiences, human behaviors, culture, and customs. It doesn’t look for a link between cause and effect and relies on the investigators’ intuition. The qualitative method lets the researcher figure out how people act in certain situations and how they interact with their environment. Qualitative research is important in many fields, such as psychology, health promotion, sociology, and so on.
Healthcare research is based on both of these methods. It looks at the past and the future to come up with new treatment protocols, keeps track of changes, and provides a foundation for future research. Researchers can use this information to evaluate ongoing studies, come up with new treatments based on what works, and improve behavioral therapies. When research methodology is used in the nursing process, it has opened the door to endless possibilities, such as changes to sterile procedures, skill nursing protocols, and how patients think about health promotion and prevention, among other things.
