In health care, evidence-based practice (EBP) has become a foundation of the care provided to patients. EBP prefers to the best available evidence to make decisions and provide effective care for patients from a scientific basis (NCBI, 2019). The two dissemination strategies I have selected are unit-level presentations and posters (Melnyk, 2018). In my behavioral health facility, each day we have a safety huddle between administration, the clinical supervisor, and nursing staff that have requested or been asked to join. After some meetings there are announcements that need to be shared with all shifts.
I have seen both posters and presentations utilized to educate and share information with staff. Posters have been utilized in the past when we switched to new restraints that color coordinated whether they were a wrist or ankle restraint. Other times I have seen presentations shared with staff. When my organization made the decision to commit to providing Trauma Informed Care. In order to provide the initial education to staff on this methodology, a presentation was constructed and shared with all members of the facility through mandatory training. It can be difficult to judge understanding from these two methods of disseminating information (Melnyk, 2018), but they are effective at sharing information with a large volume of individuals.
I don’t believe I would utilize the round table approach. In this method, information is shared with a select group of attendees with the ability to discuss matters (Melnyk, 2018). In my mind if the situation is not mandatory then attendance becomes a problem, as well as keeping people engaged throughout the discussion. I know that it can be difficult to get people to attend meetings and especially engage in the content. Although, every strategy has it’s pros and cons, I dont feel like I would utilize this strategy over other options.
In conclusion, it is important to understand multiple dissemination strategies and why they are effective or limited. In order to select a strategy to use to share EBP, the individual needs to understand their situation and determine which strategy is most effective. Correctly implementing dissemination strategies and can improve the process of sharing and utilizing EBP, and an important step of this process is selecting an appropriate spokesperson early (NCBI, 2018).

Developing a Culture of Evidence Based Practices
“A research-practice gap exists across all fields of public health and medical practice as well as in other disciplines as diverse as education, engineering, music, psychology, business, and agriculture” (Brownson et al., 2018). Dissemination is defined as the intentional distribution of information and intervention materials to a specific public health or clinical practice audience. “According to CIHR, dissemination can include elements such as summaries for/briefings to stakeholders, educational sessions with patients, practitioners and/or policy makers, engaging knowledge users in developing and executing dissemination/implementation plans, tools creation, and media engagement” (Chapman et al., 2020). The intent of dissemination is to increase knowledge of evidence-based practices. “Nurses who use an evidence-based approach to care and practice in cultures that support EBP are more empowered as they are able to make a difference in the care of their patients” (Melnyk et al., 2017). There are several ways that dissemination can occur. Dissemination of information can occur in the form of the latest internet platform, which is a zoom presentation, skype or Microsoft teams meetings, emailing, and power point presentations. It can also occur with the use of poster boards, pamphlets, the use of television and radio announcements or billboards for a bigger audience. The two strategies that I think would be effective for dissemination of EBP in my area of practice are power point presentations during employee staff meetings, and or a Microsoft teams meeting. Both strategies would prove to be beneficial and convenient to the staff. Both offer the ability to be recorded and watched later, and the concept of convenience.
