The research paper is to be an in-depth discussion of one country’s culture (excluding the United States) and should include such aspects of the country’s culture as political makeup, holidays/celebrations, religion, and art/architecture. Introduction
Greece locally known as Ellada is ranked one of the most historically wealthy countries
in Europe. Today, it’s a member of the European Union with a population estimate of eleven
million people. Athenes is the capital city which holds a third of the whole population where an
estimated 78% of the population lives within the urban zones. The population is majorly 93% of
Greeks with the minority groups such as Turks, Albanians, Bulgarians, Armenians, and others
covering the remaining percentage. Observing its religion, 98% are identified as Greek
Orthodox, 1.3% Muslims and the rest 0.7% contained in the other religions such as Judaism and
Roman Catholicism. The country follows a unitary parliamentary constitutional government
since the rejection of monarchy in 1974.the geography of Greece contains 80% mountains and
hills with approximated 6000 islands of which 200 are inhabited by citizens. The climate of the
country is Mediterranean experiencing mild winters and hot summers.
The official language of the country is Greek that is spoken by majority of the
inhabitants estimated to be 98% of the entire population. Other languages spoken include
Albanians spoken by the immigrants from Albania, Turkish the serves the famous minority
language recognized, Bulgarian and Russian. The common foreign languages are English,
Germany and French. Language forms a vital inherited culture of the Greeks that dates back to
thousands of years. The Minoan civilization that emerged on the islands of Crete Circa in
3650BC is the earliest civilization the dominated this region. Greece is described as the cradle of
Western civilization that gave birth to democracy. Western Philosophy, literature and Olympic
Games originated from this country. In addition to that, mathematics, physics, science, medicine
