Businesses utilize enterprise computing tools for back office support and efficient production operations. The IT tool performs numerous functions hence assisting users to perform various tasks throughout the company. Many businesses are heavily dependent on enterprise computing to avoid risks, identify marketing opportunities and maintain market share. Enterprise IT is a single computing system comprising of the integrated suite of IT tools. The commonly used IT tools include the enterprise resource planning systems that enable the business professionals to analyzed collected and retrieved data from the business functional areas. For instance, the ERP systems can help in interpreting the acquisition of raw materials for production. The paper presented will focus on the issues that are related to enterprise computing (Beauchamp,2015).
The enterprise computing tools are designed to foster customer relationship management systems that enable business leaders to engage with the customers and to respond to their needs and concerns. The integrated supply management tools assist the chain management in performing better coordination. Business entails activities such as acquiring materials for manufacture and distributing the created products. The enterprise computing tools easily handle the process by ensuring that the customer receives undamaged goods and in appropriate amounts. The enterprise computing system enables managers to perform these activities through timed information from monitoring product inventory levels. After the manufacturing of the product, it is the role of the managers to keep track of the product’s lifecycle. The enterprise computing tools help engineers and business leaders to develop designs generated by organizations to foster product lifecycle management (Zeng et al.2016).
However, enterprise computing has challenges such as interoperability which does not allow enterprise systems to interoperate with other systems. Such issues are fueled by the unavailability of standards as well as heterogeneous platforms. Therefore, new business models that require the enterprises to align may not benefit from enterprise computing because of interoperability. Currently, interoperability issues present over 30 percent of IT costs. Solving the problem will require business and technical efforts (Beauchamp,2015).
Another problem is flexibility and adaptability which requires the computing systems to be flexible to the changes that take place in the market (Zeng et al.2016). Businesses need proper technological support in fostering dynamic collaborations with other business partners. Enterprise computing can be limiting in this particular area because it may require redesigning and re-engineering thus encompassing business innovation. Another challenge is security and trust because the stored information is vulnerable to access by unauthorized persons hence attacks. Also, enterprise businesses offer collaborative platforms which expose the network to cyber-attacks. To prevent this, enterprises should set aside security budgets that protect them from threats. Enterprise computing has systems that conceal information from organizations which can deter collaborative processes (Beauchamp,2015). Trust can be established between one enterprise systems to another. In this situation, trust can be created by trusting that other enterprises have effective internal security policies that will enable risk management of the data. The design frameworks, architecture, and standards if the enterprise computing system can bring challenges to a business because the system may face complexities such as interoperability and flexibility. Setting appropriate standards will create open interoperability hence blocking network enterprises benefits. Also, an integrated designed framework can influence the standards and architecture of enterprise computing. The reference architecture is needed when taking cooperation needs into account because various modeling viewpoints build bridges between the software solutions and the computational independent business concerns hence fostering flexibility and interoperability. Besides, reference architecture delivers consistent standards for the enterprise computing system thus allowing the company to grasp opportunities.
