Worldview and the nursing process: a sample personal statement (NUR 513 Topic 5 Assignment Worldview and Nursing Process)
How you see the world
Nursing theories and worldviews play a big role in the development and improvement of caring qualities. This is something that should be emphasized in nursing careers. Every person has a world view, which is a set of beliefs that shapes how they see important things in life. Taves (2020) says that worldviews are different from global religions, but that they are the basis for all religions. They shape how we see the physical, emotional, and spiritual parts of our lives. They include what we think about God, other people, and reality, as well as what’s wrong with the world and where we might find answers to our problems. So, the way you see the world has a big effect on how you see spirituality.
My worldview is a philosophical and cognitive point of view that guides not only how I think about the universe but also how I think people should relate to it. My view of the world is based on biblical dogma, scientific ideas, and metaphysical ideas. Also, my beliefs, feelings, experiences, and theories have a lot to do with how I see the world (Taves, 2020). My worldview means that I don’t judge other people’s morality based on how they define religion in their worldviews. Instead, I recognize that religion is a very personal thing. My view of the world also takes into account that my patients, both those who believe and those who don’t, have different spiritual needs. Everyone, including me, is prone to doubt, especially when I’m going through a spiritual crisis because I’m sick. In my practice, nonbelievers are more likely to look for spiritual answers to fill the psychological and spiritual gaps in their atheistic or nontheistic worldviews. Due to the spiritual problems that come with being sick, believers may look for holes in their theistic worldviews that they haven’t seen before. As a believer, my view of the world may be confused and angry at a supposed good creator who makes so much pain and trouble.
Theory of Caring for People
Alharbi and Baker (2020) say that Watson’s Theory of Caring is based on the idea that people can’t be managed like things and that people can’t be separated from themselves, each other, their surroundings, and the world as a whole. Watson’s approach covers the whole field of nursing, with a focus on how the nurse and patient talk to each other. The idea focuses on how important caring is, as well as how caring-to-caring human connections can help both the patient and the nurse.
Accepting Jean Watson’s Caring Science hypothesis is part of being a nurse. Caring Science helps us accept the good energy that flows from a mind, body, and spirit that are all connected. This is good for both the patient and the nurse. Based on the theory of human caring, which says that a nurse’s job is to put her patients in the best position to heal themselves, my way of working puts me in a unique position to be the center of healing (Watson & Woodward, 2020). In line with the idea of caring, I help my patients heal from the inside out by taking care of them myself through genuine presence and commitment. Jean Watson’s theory says that love makes us feel more alive and gives us more options. Caring for a patient has a number of benefits that help people reach their personal and professional goals. Caring for someone is a good thing for the client, the nurse, and everyone else on the healthcare team. Watson also says it’s important to take care of yourself so you can take care of others. Self-healing is a necessary process for recharging our energy and filling up our spiritual bank.
The ten key principles of love-centered compassion, which are at the heart of caring, are backed up by the nursing theory of care. Watson’s caring variables are the relationships between nurses and patients and the ways that care is improved (Watson & Woodward, 2020). In a study by Alharbi and Baker (2020), caring factors that fit into Watson’s theory are: fostering the discipline of loving-kindness and calmness toward oneself and others; being truly present; facilitating, maintaining, and respecting faith, hope, and a deep belief system; fostering one’s spiritual traditions and humanistic self; building and supporting a helping-trusting, caring partnership; and being available and helpful to the patient. Carative variables help to promote healing, honor, and wholeness, and their use also helps humanity and the patient grow.
Example of a Past Event That Changed My View of the World
Caring is at the heart of what nursing is all about. Caring is an important part of nursing that involves professional knowledge and skills as well as the mental and spiritual needs of patients. Supporting Watson’s idea that caring for people should be the basis of nursing practice is one way to make sure that caring is an important part of patients’ experiences (Wei & Watson, 2019). Nurses need to be creative and know a lot about science and medicine in order to help people.
As a first-year college student, the Nursing Process and Worldview Personal Statement experience happened. I met a person who had stage 2 colon cancer and a very bad case of cirrhosis of the liver. I tried to tell him that his illness was still in its early stages and that he needed to get help and cut back on drinking. I told him that even though he was getting treatment for cancer, he could still live a normal life. He kept talking about God and asking why God was punishing him even though he had helped other people and given money to charities. He told me that he had spent half of his money on helping people in Africa and giving money to shelters for stray animals. He went on to say that he had taken in two orphans and fostered a total of six kids and that God shouldn’t be punishing him with chronic illness for all the good things he had done. I asked him if he would like a visit from a priest, his dogs, and his children because he wouldn’t get treatment, and he said yes. After the priest and his children told him not to give up hope, he decided to go through chemotherapy. I saw him again three years later, and he was still alive and doing well. He tells me now that he would have died if I hadn’t met his spiritual, religious, and cultural needs on that first visit.
Watson and Woodward (2020) explain in the book Jean Watson’s Theory of Human Caring the theoretical application of patient happiness as one of the known objective indicators of the performance and effectiveness of the medical system, as well as my nursing activities. The Watson theory helped me solve the spiritual problems of my patients. Satisfaction is linked to patient safety because it affects how and when a person uses health care in the future and how well they stick to treatments, routines, and recommendations (Watson & Woodward, 2020). Caring can be seen as either a cause or a result of a person’s safety in their everyday life and health care. Interactions with nurses are a big part of how patients feel, so nurses are an important part of the whole care experience. There is a link between how satisfied a patient is and how much they think the nurses care about them.
My view on Watson’s theory of care for people
Watson’s theory and my worldview in nursing practice will help me develop my future nursing practices by responding to and being aware of each patient’s spiritual, cultural, and religious experiences (Wei & Watson, 2019). Through caring science, I will show my patients with compassion and love that I can be an excellent nurse and a real partner in their health. It is also important for me to really find out what my patients want, what they are afraid of, and how they feel, and to include these things in their nursing care plans.

Topic 6: The role of research for advanced registered nurses and how to do research
Objectives:
Explain to the advanced registered nurse what scholarly nursing research looks like and how it works.
Talk about how to find and evaluate nursing research.
Connect credibility to the expectations for academic integrity and evidence-based practice.
Topic 6: Question 1
Assessment Description
Review the project ideas you wrote about in Topic 5 DQ 1 that are based on evidence. Based on your first thoughts, what kinds of scholarly nursing research (such as quantitative or qualitative research, peer-reviewed resources, etc.) would be needed to learn more about the issue? Choose an article that has to do with your topic. Use the CRAAP test to come up with the criteria you would use to judge whether or not the research is appropriate. Why is it important to choose research that meets these criteria? Check out the article “CRAAP Test” in the Resources section of the New Jersey Institute of Technology Library. Explain how your chosen article meets each of the five criteria.

Topic 6 DQ 2
Assessment Description
Imagine the following scenario: You are taking the evidence-based practice course and one of your classmates shares an EBP project draft with you. You notice that some of the research has not been cited correctly or even at all. When you approach your classmate, the response is that “no one will notice, and it is not a big deal anyway.” What are your next steps in speaking with your classmate? Consider how this could reflect on the credibility and integrity of the individuals involved, the university, and the profession.
