Evidence of Continuing Professional Development (Title)
Introduction
As nursing professionals, it is important to engage in continuing professional development (CPD) activities to enhance our knowledge and skills, and ensure we are providing the best possible care for our patients. This portfolio template outlines learning activities I have completed and plan to undertake to support my ongoing professional development as a registered nurse.
Section 1: Mandatory Learning

Patient Safety Modules (Ace my homework – Write my essay – Harvard, 2023)
In 2023, I completed the four mandatory patient safety modules developed by Patients Safety for Nursing Students. These online modules covered key topics such as communication in healthcare, medication safety, preventing infections, and reducing harm. Completing this training has helped me understand the importance of a culture of safety and how to apply safety practices in my daily nursing work.
Section 2: Additional Learning Activities
Blood Administration eLearning (National Blood Authority, 2022)

In 2022, I undertook the BloodSafe eLearning module on blood administration developed by the National Blood Authority. This two hour module provided comprehensive training on safe blood transfusion practices, including the identification of patients, blood product selection and administration techniques. I have applied the skills and knowledge gained to ensure the safe administration of blood products to patients in the clinical setting (National Blood Authority, 2022).
NPS MedicineWise Updates (NPS MedicineWise, 2023)
Each month, I review therapeutic updates and clinical practice recommendations provided through the NPS MedicineWise program. By keeping up-to-date with the latest evidence-based medicines information, I am able to provide optimal pharmacotherapy for patients under my care. For example, in March 2023 the update focused on new guidelines for the management of type 2 diabetes, allowing me to discuss updated treatment goals and medication options with the multi-disciplinary team (NPS MedicineWise, 2023).
Hand Hygiene Training (Hand Hygiene Australia, 2022)

In 2022, I completed the online hand hygiene training module developed by Hand Hygiene Australia. This training reinforced the five moments of hand hygiene and proper hand washing technique. I have since audited my own hand hygiene compliance and work to promote best practice hand hygiene among colleagues to prevent healthcare associated infections (Hand Hygiene Australia, 2022).
Section 3: Planned Learning Activities
Victorian Surgical Patient Registry (VSPR, 2023)
I plan to undertake the VSPR eLearning modules on surgical site infection prevention later this year. Understanding modifiable risk factors and evidence-based practices outlined in these modules will help me provide optimal pre and post-operative care and support to surgical patients under my care (VSPR, 2023).
Conclusion
This portfolio template outlines learning activities I have engaged with to date and intend to complete over the coming year. I am committed to ongoing professional development to ensure I am delivering safe, high quality and evidence-based nursing care. I will continue to critically reflect on my learning and practice, and update this portfolio accordingly.
