Consider, ‘why is it important to research the chosen topic area and the impact if there is not clear knowledge or progression in this area?’ ‘Why would research in this area be beneficial?’ You should include information from sources and you may wish to include statistics around your topic area here too (1.4).
Your next section is your methodology. This is your thinking and explanation behind your research approach before carrying out the research. Within the metholology section you should include the following:
You should explain the research approach, including the type of research (that you are using secondary research and why then that you are using qualitative data, what it is and why). Also, you will be using thematic analysis for your research, you should explain this approach (2.1).
You will use journals to carry out your research, you should use a literature search strategy to find your journals. This may be the PICO or PEO table, you should include this in your work (3.1).
You should then include the limitations of your approach and project. You could consider the issues around using secondary research/qualitative data, barriers to literature access, availability of research etc. (2.2/3.3).
Once you have completed your methodology section, you will now carry out your analysis of your research (4.1). This section will be split into chapters of different themes, as identified within your thematic analysis. Within each theme you will discuss the information you have found and draw conclusions from the information (4.3). Do not just write out what you have found, discuss different ideas that you have found across the journals (these must be cited and referenced). Remember to use professional terminology in your work (4.2).
When you have completed your analysis, you should write a conclusion (4.3). This conclusion should draw together the conclusions and judgements you have made within your analysis section. Sum up your analysis here.
Your final section is your recommendations. These should link to your topic area. You should pose recommendations here that would improve your area. You could consider, ‘is there anything that would develop the area? Is there any additional research that needs to be done and what is it? What changes need to be made in practice?’ (4.4).
How should I set out my work?
Your work should be set out on Microsoft Word as a report. This should include a title page, contents page and headings/subheadings throughout.
A reference list must be included at the end of your report to show all sources used within the work. These must be referenced correctly in accordance with Harvard referencing conventions within the text and the reference list (5.1/5.2). You can access Cite Them Right to support with your referencing.
You must not solely rely on internet sources for your reference material.
Books, journals and government documents are recommended for higher levels of academic reading and research.
