Investigative Technique
Investigative Technique
One of the topics covered within our reading assignments for Module 8 is the subject of terrorism. There are many types of terrorism, such as international and domestic, to name a couple. Many attacks seen nationwide are often described as lone-wolves who have been radicalized by more substantial and formal terrorist groups. What kind of investigative techniques can law enforcement deploy to identify and successfully prosecute these perilous and unstable individuals
Investigative Technique
The threat of terrorism is evident worldwide. There is a need to counter the threat by adopting different investigative techniques to identify and successfully prosecute the perpetrators or terrorists. The investigations ensure that law enforcement has sufficient information to take legal actions against terrorists. Successful terrorist investigations are achieved through a combination of investigative techniques such as surveillance, research, and conduct of interview techniques.
Surveillance techniques can be adopted by law agencies to successfully investigate terrorism activities. The surveillance technique takes the investigators following and recording the actions and operations of the terrorists or targets (Vallano et al., 2015). The targets are monitored all through until sufficient evidence is gathered against them. This approach ensures that terrorists and terrorist activities are identified with certainty.
The investigators investigating terrorist operations use research techniques that are characterized by conducting background checks. Research techniques use a combination of research skills, both basic and advanced (Vallano et al., 2015). The investigators use internet searches to establish useful information. Additionally, the investigators use databases containing vital information such as marriage and birth certificates, land registry, obituaries, bankruptcy record, divorce records, and civil claims. The research technique enhances the gathering of information to establish terrorism activities or links.
The investigators can conduct interviews with different parties to establish their links to terrorism activities. The conducting of interviews takes collecting documents, reviewing relevant documents, and then conducting the actual interviews (Ohm, 2017). The collection of documents and the review ensures that the investigators have sufficient information to interrogate the suspects. Therefore, the interviews enhance the investigative or law enforcement agencies to establish terrorism activities.
Conclusion
Different investigative techniques can be adopted in investigating terrorists and their related activities. Different investigative techniques include interviews, research, and surveillance. The investigative are successful when they are combined.
