The goal of the therapy is to facilitate individual autonomy and promote a sense of interconnection. Role-plays and drawings increase family members’ expression and uncover new information (Kaynan & Wade, 2018). The purpose is to stimulate change and growth among the family members and enhance a conducive environment for all members. This approach emphasizes the importance of emotional experiences and encourages family members to explore their feelings in the present moment. By focusing on immediate experiences, experiential family therapy helps individuals develop greater self-awareness and empathy towards others, ultimately fostering stronger family bonds and improving communication patterns within the family unit.
Narrative family therapy is founded on the premise that people organize their lives through stories. Some of the therapy concepts are that reality is socially constructed, a narrative helps organize reality, and that there is no objective reality.
