Identifying Research Methodologies

Identifying Research Methodologies
To Prepare:

· Review the Resources and identify a clinical issue of interest that can form the basis of a clinical inquiry. Keep in mind that the clinical issue you identify for your research will stay the same for the entire course. THE CLINICAL ISSUE I SELECTED IS The need for Access to Healthcare and a Lack of Providers

· Based on the clinical issue of interest and using keywords related to the clinical issue of interest, search at least four different databases in the Walden Library to identify at least four relevant peer-reviewed articles related to your clinical issue of interest. You should not be using systematic reviews for this assignment, select original research articles.

· Review the results of your peer-reviewed research and reflect on the process of using an unfiltered database to search for peer-reviewed research.

· Reflect on the types of research methodologies contained in the four relevant peer-reviewed articles you selected.

Part 1: Identifying Research Methodologies

After reading each of the four peer-reviewed articles you selected, use the Matrix Worksheet template to analyze the methodologies applied in each of the four peer-reviewed articles.

Your analysis should include the following:

· The full citation of each peer-reviewed article in APA format.

· A brief (1-paragraph) statement explaining why you chose this peer-reviewed article and/or how it relates to your clinical issue of interest, including a brief explanation of the ethics of research related to your clinical issue of interest.

· A brief (1-2 paragraph) description of the aims of the research of each peer-reviewed article.

· A brief (1-2 paragraph) description of the research methodology used. Be sure to identify if the methodology used was qualitative, quantitative, or a mixed-methods approach. Be specific.

· A brief (1- to 2-paragraph) description of the strengths of each of the research methodologies used, including reliability and validity of how the methodology was applied in each of the peer-reviewed articles you selected.

Use a Title page; include a brief Introduction that is written and placed just above your completed matrix! The Introduction should, as always in Check APA format! Format, inform your readers about your focus on the material, and it must include a very specific purpose statement (“the purpose of this paper or work is to…,” etc.)

Next, include the completed matrix/template (cut and paste it into your larger Word document)! The matrix is only a Word document that has been formatted into a table, so just complete it, use cut and paste action to insert it into your larger Word document or your submission.

After the completed matrix, include a brief Conclusion section that tells your readers a small summary of what they have just read… and finally, include your References page/list!

Please DO NOT write and submit only a paper or…only the matrix! You must include both to complete and submit the assignment correctly!

Barnett et al. (2018). This article was chosen because it addresses the problem of primary care shortages in rural areas, which is an important aspect of the clinical issue of interest. The article also explores the impact of telemedicine on access to care in these areas. The aim of the research was to assess the impact of telemedicine on primary care access and utilization among rural Medicare beneficiaries. The research methodology used was a mixed-methods approach that involved the analysis of Medicare claims data, interviews with telemedicine program administrators, and a patient survey. The strengths of this methodology include the use of both qualitative and quantitative data, which provides a comprehensive view of the problem. Additionally, the use of multiple data sources increases the reliability of the findings.
Lee et al. (2019). This article was chosen because it explores the potential of community health workers (CHWs) to improve access to healthcare in underserved communities. CHWs are an important resource for addressing the shortage of healthcare providers. The aim of the research was to evaluate the effectiveness of a CHW intervention in improving access to healthcare and reducing healthcare disparities in underserved communities. The research methodology used was a randomized controlled trial that compared the outcomes of patients who received the CHW intervention with those who did not. The strengths of this methodology include its high internal validity due to the use of a randomized controlled trial design. This design also allows for the establishment of cause-and-effect relationships.
Schwartz et al. (2019). This article was chosen because it examines the impact of Medicaid expansion on access to care for low-income adults. The article is relevant to the clinical issue of interest because Medicaid expansion has been shown to increase access to healthcare for underserved populations. The aim of the research was to evaluate the impact of Medicaid expansion on access to care, utilization of services, and financial protection for low-income adults. The research methodology used was a cross-sectional analysis of survey data from low-income adults in four states, two of which had expanded Medicaid and two that had not. The strengths of this methodology include the use of a large sample size and the ability to compare outcomes between states with and without Medicaid expansion.
Willging et al. (2018). This article was chosen because it explores the challenges faced by Native American communities in accessing healthcare services. Native Americans face significant barriers to healthcare access due to their geographic isolation and historical trauma. The aim of the research was to identify the barriers to healthcare access for Native Americans and to explore the potential of telehealth to improve access to care. The research methodology used was a qualitative study that involved in-depth interviews with healthcare providers and administrators, as well as focus groups with Native American patients. The strengths of this methodology include the ability to gather rich, detailed data on the experiences and perspectives of participants. The use of qualitative methods also allows for a nuanced understanding of the problem.
