One administrative pearl of working in a family practice office is the importance of efficient patient scheduling. This involves scheduling appointments with enough time for each patient’s needs, avoiding overbooking, and creating a system for patients to cancel or reschedule appointments easily. Effective scheduling helps to minimize wait times and keep patient satisfaction high, which can improve patient retention and increase revenue for the practice.
A clinical pearl that I have learned from the Clinic Manager is the importance of regular staff training and education. The Clinic Manager emphasized that ongoing education can help to improve staff performance and patient outcomes, as well as promote staff satisfaction and retention. I was able to find evidence-based literature to support this pearl, with studies showing that ongoing education can improve clinical skills, job satisfaction, and patient outcomes in healthcare settings (e.g., Driessen et al., 2013; Martínez-González et al., 2016). Therefore, implementing regular training and education opportunities for staff can be a valuable administrative strategy for family practice offices.
