Scenario
You have just started work for a small but very busy construction company called Aotearoa New Zealand Construction which needs to update its customer facing website. The company has decided that the new website should describe and demonstrate some key information for prospective clients.
Your manager has asked you to prepare two slide show presentations which will be uploaded to the company website.
The aim of your first assessment is to lay the groundwork for Assessment 2 and 3 by describing and demonstrating knowledge of the essential key legislation used in the tender process.
Task 1. Describe the purpose of specific legislation
Create a slide presentation to describe how stakeholders in Aotearoa New Zealand Construction are protected by the following five acts:
Consumer Guarantees Act 1993.
The Building Act 2004.
Construction Contracts Act 2002.
Resource Management Act 1991.
Health & Safety at Work Act 2015.
Your presentation should be a maximum of two slides per Act and should:
include an introduction slide to set the scene and provide an overview of all 5 pieces of legislation and their relevance to the construction industry
describe the purpose of each Act
include a construction industry example for each Act. This can be an online article, news or other media event that illustrates the purpose of each Act. You must summarise the industry example in your words.
include relevant visual supporting content such as images and diagrams.
Task 2. Demonstrate the requirements of the HSWA 2015
Aotearoa New Zealand Construction needs to provide some in house Health and Safety training for all staff. Create a second slide presentation to describe the responsibilities of all people engaged in the construction industry under the Health & Safety at Work Act 2015:
Person Conducting a Business or Undertaking (PCBU)
primary duty of care
upstream duties
responsibilities of all.
Your presentation should have a maximum of two slides for each bullet point listed above and:
include an introduction slide to set the scene and describe its purpose
show how the Act is designed to protect people
show who is responsible under the Act
